The Battle of Longewala was the only battle of its kind between Pakistani armour and the Indian forces, in which the Air Force alone fought the Pakistani ground forces. Apart from an infantry company deployed in Longewala, there were no other Indian troops. The story of the Battle of Longewala owes its success to brilliant base commander, Air Marshal M S Bawa, and the highly motivated and skillful pilots of No. 122 Squadron.
